I had promised to do a special Christmas surprise post for Jessica on my website last year but unfortunately my site was hacked and went offline for ages. https://wezgmusic.wordpress.com is back online now though and, if a little late, I’m now delivering on my promise….
Jessica helped me out greatly for well over a decade with my End Of Terror Mental Health campaign and struggles. She is a lovely woman and the YouTube short video is based on an actual event as I did in fact visit Parliament as Jessica’s guest as part of my efforts in seeking justice over my situation with mental health oppression. Jessica didn’t actually give me a kiss on the cheek that day though but at the Xmas lights turn on in Caldicot she planted me a smacker for Xmas and my birthday once lol. There was a boundary change at the last general election and Caldicot no longer forms part of the Newport East constituency (where Jessica Morden is still the MP). Catherine Fookes MP now represents us here as the Labour Party MP for Monmouthshire and she is doing a great job so far. I count Jessica now as a good friend and have been out working alongside her for the Labour Party in recent years, doing a bit of politics myself, to pay back all the hard work that she has put in to helping me out. Politics and democracy is important and I encourage others to exercise their rights and get their voices heard. Your MP is your first port of call and they are often particularly helpful people in your community, whatever your issues might happen to be. Merry Christmas everyone!
Wez G in Parliament with Jessica Morden MP
Today I was invited to Parliament on a scheduled visit with my MP, Jessica Morden, the Labour Party representative for Newport East constituency. I’ve known and been friends witH Jess for years and this is the first time I’ve actually been to Parliament with her in person, although she had previously arranged for me to visit there on a guided tour. I’m not sure if you are aware, but anyone in the U.K., is entitled to visit Parliament. It is open to the Public. You just have to contact your local MP and they will schedule a visit there for you. There is very tight security and you have to be vetted but it is truly worth it. In our country, the United Kingdom, Parliament is the true seat of our constitutional democracy. It is where all of our votes lead to. It is what guides and governs us ultimately. If you are interested in anything to do with your life in this land and how it is shaped then a visit to Parliament should most certainly be on your to-do list.
Before my visit to see Jessica in Parliament I had been busy already down in London town. I’d been attending Chatham House, the Royal Society of International Affairs, of which I am a member. I had to cut short my meeting there on US sanctions and bolt down on the short journey from Mayfair to Westminster, strangely enough, in a Bolt taxi lol. I was met by Jessica Morden MP and her best friend in Parliament, the MP for Thangam Debbonaire MP (Labour, Bristol West) at the gates, and they ushered me in quickly.
Inside Parliament it was an absolute hive of activity. I’ve never seen anywhere at all, on this entire planet, with so much going on at once. As we moved through Parliament, it was clear that Jessica knew almost everyone and was a well-respected MP, this was despite Labour being in opposition. Jessica said she had a few things to do while I was there and just asked me to tag along with her. We went to a meeting with the Barnardo’s childrens’ charity that she had scheduled. There was this young Sudanese guy, about 14-15 years old, who was part of a youth refugee resettlement programme here in the U.K. I was introduced to him and immediately started conversing with him in hi snative Arabic language which certainly impressed Jessica lol. I’m a wasted talent….
After this meeting Jessica bought me a cup of coffee in the staff cafeteria and we went and sat outside in the sun, where I managed to grab the obligatory selfies, even though it was, strictly speaking, against the rules, as a clear no photos sign was visible. I just ignored it and took advantage of my host’s position. I think a security guard got sequestered into taking the photographs anyway…. I love the photos and I was proud to be there with an MP who is honestly the most amazing lady. Jessica Morden MP and John Griffiths MS, have both been a total pillar of support for me durng most of my cery upsetting End Of Terror #mentalhealth campaign. Ultimately , the main political reason I was in Parliament today is in order to continue fighting for justice in this struggle hat has occupied every aspect of my life since 02.04.1997. A step closer to justice.
I thank Jessica very much for letting me run loose around her place of work with her. It was truly an honour.
I left with my head held high and in amazement and just a short distance down the road, stumbled across the entrance to 10 Downing Street and took a quick selfie there too. Now, I’m active in politics, it’s all relevant and it is nice to see how things are done at the highest level of any industry in which you may choose to work in during your lifetime.
