The author, an active Labour Party member, reflects on David Lammy’s book ‘Tribes,’ which explores tribalism’s impact on society and politics. Lammy’s investigative journey into his diverse ancestry shapes a narrative of social mobility and personal struggle, culminating in political engagement as a Black MP. The writing is honest and compelling, appealing to a broad… Continue reading

Labour Doorstep, Magor, Monmouthshire

Today, a small group including Cllr Tony Easson and worker Ryan promoted Labour candidate Catherine Fookes in Magor. The town, near the M4, had a welcoming atmosphere. After the session, Ryan kindly drove me to Cardiff University for another political event, enhancing the day’s productive and pleasant experience. Continue reading

Review: Hidden Hand – How The Chinese Communist Party is Reshaping The World – by Clive Hamilton & Mareike Ohlberg

As a committed sinophile, this recently written book seemed a necessity. As China continues its rise to being the most dominant national force economically on the planet, it is quite difficult to obtain meaningful and relevant and unbiased factual information about its thoughts and the thoughts of its governing Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Aside from… Continue reading

On the Second of April 1997, at the point of my first contact with the Mental Health Act, I had my life’s dreams shattered. On that day, my parents had been persuaded to take me to see a psychiatrist at the local mental hospital, St Cadoc’s in Caerleon. I hadn’t wanted to attend the meeting… Continue reading

Contemporary Francophone “Afropean” Writers: From Francophonie to the Banlieue – Christopher Hogarth. School of Creative Industries, University of South Australia – Cardiff University MLANG 21.11.18

The concept of “Afropean” refers to a blend of African and European identities, emphasizing the interconnectedness of these cultures. It highlights the experiences of post-migratory authors from Africa in France, who face challenges in identity recognition and representation. Their literature often addresses issues of marginalization and cultural fusion within European contexts. Continue reading
