Review: Life After Dark – A History of British Nightclubs & Music Venues – by Dave Haslam
I got excited when this book arrived on my doorstep. At first glance it has all the key ingredients for a great book. Hacienda DJ author, history of British nightclubs – I expected lots of gory detail and exciting anecdotes and couldn’t wait to get to the acid house chapters….The history begins back in Victorian… Continue reading

Wez G – Wide-Eyed Wild (DJ Set 67)
I’ve gone back to my (progressive) house roots for this mix… Dug deep by analysing what Sasha & Digweed have been laying recently and adding my own bit of spice to the track selection. From the early mix tapes, through to Renaissance and Northern Exposure, Sasha & Digweed have been luminary artists in the dance… Continue reading

Wez G – Punky Funky (DJ Set 61)
Electronic dance music enthusiasts are the modern day punks. Electronic music represents youth culture and the stuff top DJs hammer out in wild night clubs to glammed up audiences is about as punky as it’s gotten since the seventies. This funked up mix covers vocals through to driving funky basslines and I hope it keeps… Continue reading

This funky little mix starts with some classics and works its way through a funk agenda to Joey Negro at the finale,… Continue reading

Wez G – Little Disco Biscuit (DJ Set 47)
The best time for dance music in my opinion was the early 1990s. It was the heyday of the Rave Scene and dancefloors were packed with sky high dancing bods. The reason I like this period is not that the floors were filled with ecstasy takers, but that the music was at its peak. Dubby… Continue reading

Wez G – Free The Planet (DJ Set 45)
It’s been a long summer and there’s been a break in my regular mixes. Anyway I’m back with a bang and keen to ‘Free The Planet’. Watching the news here in the UK over the past year or so and I am detecting a disturbing pattern of police brutality and the erosion of our fundamental… Continue reading

Wez G – True Romance (DJ Set 41)
The songs included on this mix seemed to me to have a lovey dovey theme and feel so hence the title ‘True Romance’. Deep and funky, it flows nicely, with stand out tracks from Glimpse and Vincenzo and obviously the opening classic from A Man Called Adam. Light some candles and slap a nice meal… Continue reading

Wez G – Sweet Tooth (DJ Set 37)
I’ve been munching fruit Menthos all week – can’t get enough of them so a sweet theme seemed appropriate, that and the first two songs are about sweets, including a great remix of the eagerly anticipated new Billie Ray Martin track, surely one of the greatest vocalists to ever have graced the dancefloors of clubland.… Continue reading

Wez G – Island Hop (Chillout) (DJ Set 34)
A few years ago I went Island hopping in the South Pacific… It’s great fun, a perfect paradise… This soundtrack is ideal for lazing away on a yacht, checking into the beaches, diving in coral reefs and catching a bit of surf… OK – It is winter, but in the South Pacific it’s always hot… Continue reading
