Back to Ableton – I had been wondering about whether ChatGPT would produce Ableton content… I did a quick google for Ableton and AI and this Magenta Studio Plugin came up. I found it on the official Ableton website
I’ve been using Ableton Live as my main DAW for years in the studio. It’s easy to use and can be quite complex and every time you open it and work on soemthing you are discovering a new skill. This Magenta plugin, allows machine-learning or ai to produce MIDI clips within a given MIDI channel. There are various settings and you can create drum patterns with the DRUMIFY setting or maybe continue on a melody that you have already started on. It will combine MIDI clips and then croos-generate a new series of MIDI signals. It’s experimental and as it was totally free – You just need to be running at least Ableton 10 and have MAX for Live also installed.
It took a bit to figure out how it works but pretty soon I was generating four bar MIDI clip selections, 8 at a time. I just went through and lsitened to the somewhat weird generations and cherry-picked those that might be sueful. These can then obviously be manually-edited to suit your tastes.
God Only Knows what the future of music will look like with #ai buit I guess I’m forming part of that revolution right now.
