Christine and The Queens – Tilted

I must confess: it was the evil Flapsandwich who put me onto this amazing French Band, Christine and The Queens, a few years ago. I was chuffed when they turned up on the BBC Glastonbury 2023 television footage. I was reeling about Lana Del Rey being switched off but Christine and The Queens sort of made up for it.. It was a great performance at Glastonbury and it cracked me up as it was like two fingers up to English prude morality. Her bare-chested topless performance would have shocked the hell out of the British public. I used to spend a lot of time in France as a youngster, on the beautiful Atlantic coast beach, in Vieux-Boucau, with my French amis and I’m well used to the fact that French women tend not to wear tops in the summer. It’s great fun as a teenager…. takes a bit of getting used to but I certainly didn’t complain about it one bit 😉 I mean, at the flagship British Glastonbury festival, Christine or Red was a bit conservative, as she had a couple of silver stickers on the most sensitive parts of her upper body…. It was an excellent show though and fair play, emancipation: Liberté…. I believe that art like this empowers women. If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Why not? Back to point, this song is my favourite of this French band’s repertoire thus far. I do track as much as I can of them. She sings in English and French, a bit like the previous Random Song. It’s dancey pop, and very accessible and Christine and The Queens are very arty. I generally think we have a better music industry here in the United Kingdom, than in France, BUT, when French Music is good it is absolutely merveilleuse! #shoutout Laurent Garnier who is definitely one of the best DJs on the planet. I had heard that his health or something hadn’t been brilliant recently and he’d had to take a break or cancel a few things. Bonne Santé. :Laurent, mon ami.
