Well, the worst of all possible starts here at Anfield. Coming off the back of three straight defeats and within a couple of minutes, on home turf, we go down to a goal from the Mancs…. Virgil Van Dijk got blindsided in a well-executed pass from the United midfield and Frnchman Brian Mbeumo slots it straight past the LFC reserve keeper, Mamardashvili, at the near post, in the Kop end, in front of the core LFC fans.. Alexis MacAllister is down and has a head injury from the play that led to the goal…
Liverpool started fighting back and on 20 minutes Cody Cakpo, clean on goal, struck the post with a cracking shot. Lucky Mancs!
At 34 minutes, Isak broke through on goal, after a lovely pass through and should have really scored but the keeper parried it away. Liverpool should be in front by now, in all honesty. Isak is getting a lot of possession down on the right attack zone, a lot of touces on the ball – it’s about time he make some conversions and makes his possession count with a goal.
Just before halftime, Gakpo luckily hacked away a shot from Bruno Fernandez, sending it out, above the LFC goal, so United had a corner and escaped the danger.
At half-time we are still a goal down, in spite of having most of the possession and being relatively dominant. We’ve hit the post twice and need to imporve for the second half so we can avoid a fourth successive defeat. Let’s turn it around, Slot!

With Hugo Ekitike on, Liverpool started getting more chances in attack – Ekitike went close with a shot just skimming wide on 68 minutes. Liverpool are attacking their prefereed Kop end in the second half. On 71 minutes Isak leaves the field to be replaced by our import from Juventus, Federico Chiesa…
CHiesa proves his worth at 77 minutes and slots the ball across the face of the goal for a just-onside Cody Gakpo to slot it in and bring us back level. Looks like Gakpo proved my doubts about him wrong in today’s Match Preview lol.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will be our day today as at 83 minutes Harruy Maguire heads the goal in after a nice cross from Bruno Fernandez. It looks as though Slot has indavertently given his rival Rube Amorim a lifeline an a critical away result that the Mancs will surely treasure?
Gakpo has a sitter at 86 minutes. Crossed perfectly by Frimpong on the right, he lands the ball bang on Gakpo’s head, within the six yard box, unmarked, and it just needs to drop into the goal, but frustratingly, drips off wide of the left post.
Liverpool are 2-1 down and into injury time they have an extra eight minutes in order to rescue something from the game.
United’s defence hold on and Ruben Amorim can celebrate a massive away victory at Anfield, his first against us – and hopefully the last!
We have problems. This is our fourth successive defeat. Our team are yet to gel properly and time is ticking on and we are losing critical points. Yes, the Mancs have the bragging rights from this match but we are letting our title slip away from us. Salah doesn’t seem to be anywhere near as effective this season as he was last year when he was outstanding. We need to sort it out and fast!
