Liverpool FC take a string of bad form and four successive defeats into tonight’s Champions League clash at the Deutsche Bank Park in Germany. Hugo Ekitiké will be hoping to haunt his former club. Frankfurt have been suffering a big dip in form themselves. They have had only one win in the last month (across all competitions).
Both sides have played the same Champions League opponents. Frankfurt thrashed Galatasaray 5-1 and then lost by the same result to Athletico Madrid. Liverpool, however, went down 1-0 agaianst the Turks and managed to beat Athletico Madrid 3-2. It goes to show how difficult it is to pick results in any Champions League game. The divide between the top European sides is very close and anything can happen.
OPTA stats predict a 56.3% chance for Liverpool to win tonight. I just struggle to see how we can sudddenly start to gel together as a proper team, especially after watching us so dismally go down against Man United on the weekend. Mohamed Salah, our talisman last season, has been so quiet so far this season… We really need him to. be using his experience and to set a world professional example to the new players.
I like Ektiké a lot and I hope that tonight will be the blackboard on which he can chalk his mark for us as a top striker who delivers (multiple goals!).
Mamardashvili keeps his position in goal tonight as Allison is still out injured. He didn’t perfom too well against United so a better performance will be required for this game. Andy Robertson and Jeromie Frimpong are chosen as wing backs and Curtis Jones and Florian Wirtz come into midfield. Of all the summer signings, I was looking forward most of all to the addition of Wirtz yet so far he hasn’t really delivered that much. I think he will ultimately prove to be a good signing though. Alexander Isak is also upfront – He most certainly has the aptitude to perform at the highest level which is what the Champions League offers our football club.
I’ll be back to deliver a match report after the game. #ynwa
