Match Report: Liverpool vs Real Madrid (04.11.25) W 1-0

Liverpool start the match of quite strongly and sem to be up for the challenge. It’s a big game. We need to be at our very best.

At around ten minutes Dominik Szoboszlai gets the ball in a nice position in the box and find Alexis Mac Allister who unfortunately can’t connect properly. It is a good chance.

Liverpool certainly seem to be challenging the midfield well and seem to be governing the battle there.

At 27 minutes, Florian Wirtz breaks down the right and lays it in for Dominik Szoboszlai but Madrid keeper, Thibaut Courtois, is there to stop the shot.

Szoboszlai has an effort from outside the box and it hits Aurelien Tchouameni on the arm and the ref has to stop the game to assess if it’s a handball penalty. He has a look at the VAR but dismisses the penalty and gives a free kick outside the box.

Liverpool are playing like the home side and generating most of the attacking plays. Again, it’s Szoboszlai who is making all the major efforts on goal and he has another shot parried by the keeper. He is having a great game!

Back in defence, Vincius Junior makes a lurid dive in an attempt to win a penalty. The ref doesn’t fall for it. Madrid start to apply some pressure and Bellingham is denied at the near post.

Half-time and it’s still 0-0 although Liverpool have had the better of the game.

Second half and Real Madrid are attackign the Kop end.

Szoboszlai continues his goal-shooting impetus and has a well-taken free kick stopped by the keeper. I think that it’s his fifth attempt on target so far. Salah seems a bit quite though. We need our star players to come to the fore.

At around the hour mark, Ryan Gravenberch makes a dangerous run down the right side and Jude Bellingham brings him down in a cynical challenge and gets a yellow card from the ref. Free kick on the edge of the box, a decent position, not for the first time in the match. Szoboszlai delivers the free kick, straight onto the head of Alexis Mac Allister who glances a header straight into the net. GOAL! The ref checks it for offside but decides it should stand. LFC deserve their advantage.

It’s turning into a dirty match as Florian Wirtz is caught by Mbappé. They are fighting it out. Madrid start trying to retrieve the game and Liverpool are put under pressure in defence. Ekitike and Mac Allister make way for Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo. The boo boys are out on The Kop as Trent Alexander-Arnold is brought on for Real Madrid.

Into the last ten minutes and Mohamed Salah has a little dribble into the right of the box but is unable to unleash a shot. He has been relatively quiet.

Back in defence, Connor Bradley is having a great game, protecting the advances of Vincius Junior.

Gakpo gets a decent attempt inside the six yard box and Salah also follows up but Courtois is too strong.

Robertson and Wirtz go off for the final stages abd Chiesa and Kerkez come onto the pitch.

Right before the final whistle another Madridista goes into the book as Alvaro Carreras does a foul.
The match ends 1-0 to Liverpool. A fine, well-deserved victory for the Mighty Redmen!

Liverpool FC had the energy and passion tonight and deserved the win. It may, in effect, be all over for Arne Slot’s men in the Premiership but here in the Champions league LFC have proven tonight that the are a strong force to be contended with. Xabi Alonso’s return to Anfield has ended in misery. Personally I prefer Europe to the domestic competitions and I wish the lads all the very best of success in this trophy! #ynwa
