Match Report: Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest (22.11.25) L3-0

The match gets underway and it takes until 15 minutes before a sort of half shot on target as Mohamed Salah, looking lively, makes a move in the box and sends it into Kerkez, who is running onto the ball but he can’t get a good effort out of it.

Forest are in attack and Sangare goes into the box and easily goes down to a Mac Allister challenge, claiming a penalty that isn’t given but the ref has to go to VAR to check a preceding foul for a possible Gravenberch red card which he is cleared of.

Curtis Jones has started well in midfield and after forcing a corner, Liverpool get it out to him for a shot that doesn’t register. A lot of pressure, no points.

After 24 minutes Murillo battles it off Gakpo in the midfield, takes it forward , and forces Alisson into getting down for a save.

Christ! It looks like it’s going to be another bad day at the office…. A corner on 32 minutes and
the dismal Liverpool defence, in spite of Alisson’s return, fail to sort it out and it falls to Murillo, who keen already, bangs it past our keeper. Ndoye was allegedly in the line of sight of the keeper but the goal is not disallowed after a check.

A few moments later and again, our defence fails on a cross and Jesus smashes in a good shot so we are 2-0 down. Luckily though, this time, the ref disallows it. We are quite lucky – apparently it is handball. It looks a shady decision. Perhaps the ref has sympathy for our woeful side?

At 40 minutes Liverpool get a chance from a Szoboszlai  free kick that Mac Allister, unfortunately, can’t latch onto properly so the keeper makes an easy save. Salah is dancing a bit in attack but all the passes don’t seem to be weaving the attacks together. Isak looks naff and has had no impact. They just aren’t bonding as a unit. At all.

Half-time and Liverpool are lucky to just be one goal down. They need to gee up a bit and turn this match around. I can see Slot living on borrowed time if this form at the club continues for much longer. I’m questioning his skills as a manager. Yes, we won the league last season but that was with a side that Jurgen Klopp built up. I think that Slot lacks experience as a manager.

Straight after half-time, our old trusty Welsh wing back, Neco WIlliams embarrasses our still shady defence and cuts it back into the path of Savona, in loads of space in the box and he just easily slots it past Alisson. 2-0 to Forest, I simply cannot see us rising to the challenge and recovering anything from this match. SHow some spirit, FFS, Liverpool! I thought we had lifted ourselves out of the 30 year doldrums.

Konate has been terrible again and he makes way for Ektike at 54 minutes, a necessary attacking change.

Salah is looking like the only one out there with any desire at all. We do need leadership in this crisis period. Ektike can’t do much with a cross from Salah.

A  Szoboszlai corner doesn’t allow our beleagured captain, Virgil Van Dijk to come to the rescue with that powerful head of his and Forest clear up the field.

Salah then has two little chances, failing with a shot and then claiming a penalty which isn’t given. If anyone is going to score for us, it will be the Egyptian King.

Forest are defending in numbers with eight behind the ball. Slot brings on Ngumoha, to maybe inspire the attack a little more.

It’s Forest who attack though. Hutchinson leaves Andy Robertson for dead, shooting on goal which is save, only for Gibbs-White to bang in the rebound and make it three. It’s embarrassing out there, lads.

We’ll have had 6 defeats out of seven after this? This season we are talking bottom four rather than Champions League places. Are we trying to emulate Everton or something and feel sorry for them fighting it out each year in the relegation zone. They’re jot lonely, The Toffees….They moved now, anyway. They’ll finish above us if this series of defeats continues for much longer. This is Anfield. You don’t lose by three goals to a relegation zone side at our hallowed turf? PSV will be pissing themselves laughing watching this match ahead of next week’s crucial European game.

The final whistle goes and is a relief really. Most of the Anfield crowd have walked out, unheard of really. It’s bad and as much as I can type away ideas to psychologically turn it around it has to come from within the changing room. Morale boost necessary. Just keep it real in Europe lads, so we can contend for at least one trophy this season…. #ynwa
