A wreath is laid on the pitch prior to the game to commemorate the life of West Ham legend Billy Bonds who has just died at the age of 79. A sad passing: may he rest in peace.
We have our first attempt on goal after a few minutes and Isak foolishly skies it completely, wasting the chance. After ten minutes Alisson takes a knock and goes down. His return from injury could be short-lived. The medics are on the pitch. He manages to survive.
After quarter of an hour, a Liverpool corner allows Virgil van Dijk to have a header on goal but it doesn’t register. Five minutes later and Isak has a point blank effort parried by the keeper. Gravenberch gets fouled right on the edge of the box, almost a penalty, but the ref doesn’t even give a foul. Florian Wirtz has been more involved in the game, getting quite a lot of touches in advanced positions.
At the other end, Jarrod Bowen, the West Ham captain, is battling as hard as he can but there is no real danger. Wirtz has a great opportunity when the ball comes back to him, in front of goal, but he can do nothing with it.
The game is quite sedentary. The crowd is quiet and a lot of the action in midfield is being conducted at walking pace. Liverpool are dominating the game but their attack is a bit lethargic and not being fruitful. I suppose that there is a lack of confidence which isn’t surprising given our string of bad results. Maybe a goal in the second half could be the catalyst to help us move forward and get over this terrible blip? 0-0 at half time.
Gakpo skies one early into the second half. It is very strange to see Mohamed Salah sitting on the bench. Haven’t really noticed him not being on the pitch, to be honest.. He has been pretty anonymous all season so far. Jarrod Bowen manages to win West Ham a corner. This corner leads to another one after Konate puts it out. With an hour on the clock, Alexander Isak breaks his goal duck and scores with a nice shot into the bottom right corner. He is now off the mark as a Liverpool goalscorer. It was Cody Gakpo who provided the assist. Hopefully we will see more out of our 100 million man from now on.
Soungoutou Magassa does a bad foul and goes into the book. A few minutes later Alexander Isak makes way for Ektiké. After 75 minutes Curtis Jones replaces Florian Wirtz. Jones immediately does an assist for Hugo Ekitiké but he misses. After 83 minutes ç gets himself a yellow card and by persistently protesting to the referee it gets upgraded to a red and he is sent off.  Andy Robertson comes on to replace Kerkez with five minutes left on the clock. Two minutes into injury time and Liverpool can seal the injury after Joe Gomez puts Cody Gakpo through to score.
The match finishes and Liverpool have lifted themselves out of the doldrums with a much-needed win. I’m kind of gutted that I wasn’t at the game like I was supposed to be today. Let’s hope we go on and perform well for the rest of the season. Well done today lads! #ynwa
