A must-win for Liverpool tonight at the San Siro.
Ten minutes in, Piotr Zielinski replaces Inter Milan star player, Hakan Çalhanoglu after he goes down injured. Andy Robertson is soon afterwards on the receiving end of a nasty foul which sees Lautaro Martínez go into the book.
Curtis Jones makes a few nice moves in midfield and gets a nice shot away that challenges the Inter keeper. Ryan Gravenberch gets an opportunity on goal too, so Liverpool are plying on the pressure.
So far, half hour into the game, Liverpool are looking good. they are sprightly in midfield, pinging the ball around and dominant in possession. they look by far the better side out there on the San Siro pitch.
Ibrahima Konaté steps forward as the hero, with is second goal in two seasons at the San Siro. He has rather a messy header knocked in from inside the six yard box. The ref has to check it for handball so it may not be given. After quite a lengthy check the ref does indeed disallow it so it’s back to square one and we fight on.
Hugo Ekitike goes into the book after a foul. Inter Milan have a good effort with a long range free kick. Inter start coming forward a lot more and into the game. Well into injury time and Martinez has the best chance of the game which Alisson luckily gets down to save. It is one all at half-time.
Toing and froing the second half. A bit of a null game. Wirtz and Bradley come on for Gomez and Isak. Isak hasn’t done much at all, just making up the numbers. At 72 minutes Curtis Jones gets himself injured while committing a booking offense. The game is kind of canceling itself out in midfield with no clear cut chances for either side.
There is a penalty check for a shirt pull on Florian Wirtz in the box on 85 minutes. The ref has given it! It’s a tight call. Wirtz seemed to have made a lot of the challenge. Dominik Szoboszlai sorts the penalty and we have three minutes to hold out for a victory.
It’s a good win for Liverpool. Internazionale were pretty poor to be honest. We are faring a bit better in Europe now. Not all over there by any means. And we did it tonight without Mo Salah. Do we really need him? #ynwa
