Match Preview: Liverpool vs Brighton (13.12.25)

Both Liverpool and Brighton failed to win last weekend. Mohamed Salah’s accusations of the club “throwing him under the bus” have been making all the headlines and he gave a very controversial interview following the Leeds game. He is included in the squad today and it could very well be his last appearance fro the Reds. I truly hope that this is not the case and that he and Arne Slot can resolve their differences and that, more importantly, Salah can find his world class from and hence encourage the whole team to perform a bit better. It has been a poor season for everyone so far. Salah will be starting on the bench in any case and I would imagine that we will be seeing him at some stage. I disagree with players holding the club to ransom and thankfully this only happens rarely. Salah is a star but he is not bigger than the club and The Kop appreciate this fact more than anyone so when he does come on, there could be a lukewarm reaction.

Our league form is way off the mark. We have registered only two wins in ten and lie tenth in the table. Just getting to the Top Four this season will be a miracle outcome in May. It is frustrating but I guess we have had a lot of new signings and have to be patient in order to rebuild for the future. It did take Klopp a few years to find the winning formula and we owe it to Arne Slot to give him a bit off leeway and allow for his formulas to work. There is no magic panacea in football. It all takes blood, sweat and hard work to get to the top. It is primarly our defence which needs to be shored up. We have leaked 24 goals this season. Far too many. Often we are losing leads with silly errors at the back. Be confident, guys and just perform to your professional standards.

Fabian Hurzeler leads a Brighton side that had been knocking on the door of the top four, but they were unable to capitalize on their position with a pretty lacklustre performance against West Ham last weekend. We have a good record over Brighton although we did lose our last game against them in May last season so a win today for the Seagulls would mean successive victories over Liverpool. Their defence is tight yet their attack is a little weak too.

Florian Wirtz comes into the side ahead of Alexander Isak, who has had a knock. Also, Milos Kerkez replaces Andy Robertson, at the back. Danny Welbeck has been dropped and ex-LFC veteran, James Milner, is on the bench for Brighton. God knows how strong the duracells are that are plugged into Milner because, by heck has he got some longevity!

Liverpool: Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones, Ekitike, Gravenberch.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Isak, Salah, Chiesa, Robertson, Ramsay, Ngumoha, Lucky.
